Update Changelogs (Descriptive)[]
- This is a list of every single notable Gorilla Tag update since the release of the game on February 12th, 2021.
- All changelogs are copy-pasted from a google slide I made.
- Updates before the release of the game are not included, as that would almost double research, as there is little information about such versions.
- Beta releases of updates are also not included, as the features added in them are most likely noted in the full changelogs of their respective full updates.
- These changelogs are fan-made, so they may be inaccurate. If you feel that something needs to be added, don't be afraid!
- Order of priority for changelogs: New map - New Gamemode - Permanent, major map changes - Temporary decorations added/seasonal theme change - Temporary decorations removed - Temporary cosmetics added - Temporary cosmetics removed - DLC added, DLC changes - DLC removed - Time of day change - Permanent cosmetics added - Permanent minor changes - Temporary minor changes. If you spot a changelog not going by this order, it would be nice if you change it. If something you want to add doesn't fall into these categories, just put it wherever, but still below cosmetics added/removed. You can make an exception to this order if context is needed for something listed. Newest updates added by NeonFireball :)
Update #1 - Forest Map and Infection Gamemode (02/12/2021)[]
- One map, a forest with wooden platforms scattered about on the trees, a gazebo with a board with info about the lobby the player is in, a red treehouse, two large walls to practice wall jumping and climbing on, a slide that players can slide down, and a large, dead tree with a room in it that has 2 tables and a stool, one table with a computer on it. There is also a purple cave area at the top of the forest walls that serves as a tutorial for new players, who will spawn here when they first Log into the game. Players are not meant to go back to this area after jumping down.
- The computer is used to adjust settings such as the player's name, fur color, and turning settings/speed. It can also be used to leave and join private lobbies.
- Simple 4+ player infection tag multiplayer, the game starts with one player as the “Lava Monke”. When the Lava Monke tags another player, that player also becomes a Lava Monke. Those who are a Lava Monke have their fur changed to a material that resembles lava. The gameplay ends when everyone is Tagged.
- For under 4 players, the gamemode is regular tag, where instead of those tagged also becoming a Lava Monke with the original tagger, the original tagger stops being “it” and the person tagged becomes “it” as normal. The tagged player material is also a red rocky material in this gamemode, rather than the lava material in infection tag.
Update #2 - Cave Map Update (02/26/2021)[]
- New second map, a cave map. This map does not have an open ceiling and it’s main feature is many multi-color crystals scattered through the upper area. There is a small, dry river bed going through the middle of the map, with entrances to a lower area at the ends of the river. The lower area is a mineshaft maze area that has crates and minecarts in it.
- The public lobby system is adjusted as to where both maps take place in their own lobbies separate from each other, with the exception of private lobbies.
- A new code of conduct is added in the dead tree that outlines the rules to follow when playing with other players.
- The stub branches that were used to access the dead tree room have been replaced with 2 ramps for easier access to new players.
Update #3 - Early Access Supporter Pack (03/18/2021)[]
- New upper floor in the stump, entered via a spiral ramp to the left of the player’s spawn point. This room has a mirror and a few shelves with display heads with different cosmetics on them. These can be purchased for $10.00 as a DLC bundle on Steam.
- New queue tab on the computer featuring a new queue accompanying the default queue, competitive. Players can pick this queue if they find they’re too skilled for default lobbies.
- New group tab on the computer, where players in a private lobby can gather around the computer and select one of the 2 maps and press enter to be sent to a public lobby with enough space for those around the computer.
- New mic tab where the player can choose between 3 options, all chat, push to talk, and push to mute. All chat means microphone recording is always on, push to talk means the microphone isn't recording one of the head buttons (thumb) is pushed, and push to mute means the microphone is always on unless one of the head buttons is pushed.
- The computer has been expanded for the space to add these new tabs.
Update #4 - Slippery Walls and Casual Queue (04/01/2021)[]
- New slippery walls along the top of the forest. The slippery walls are tinted slightly blue and have less friction, making it much harder to climb on them.
- New “casual” queue in the queue tab on the terminal. Selecting this queue means all lobbies that are joined will not have any taggers.
- As of March 25, the early access supporter pack is now $10.
Update #5 - Canyon Map Update (04/17/2021)[]
- New third map, a canyon map, inspired by Antelope Canyon. This map focuses heavily on wall jumping/climbing, with 2 main layers. The bottom layer is maze-like, with narrow corridors between the string-like wall structures that make up the floor of the upper layer. To get out of the bottom layer, players can wall jump between the walls of the corridors or use the ramp at the entrance of the map. The upper layer has small, round cacti and rectangular clay huts on the outer walls of the map. The huts have small octagonal clay tables and square shaped pillows in them.
- Now when a player joins an infection lobby, the player will automatically become “it”.
Update #6 - New Regions (05/02/2021)[]
- New banana hat in the early access supporter pack
- 3 regions, US East, US West, and EU. This was added to help with lag and tagging issues.

Update #10 - Cosmetics Map Update (09/10/2021)[]
- New fourth map, a city map. This map is a small map where there is always no gamemode active. There is a cosmetic store with 3 floors called “Nice Gorilla Store” where players can select cosmetics from a shelf, try them on in front of the mirror, and buy them at the checkout station. Players can still purchase the early access supporter pack as a bundle on a shelf next to the checkout, but most cosmetics in the bundle can also be purchased individually. Each cosmetic costs a different number of in-game currency, called “shiny rocks”. The player is awarded 100 shiny rocks each day they log into the game, or they can purchase an amount of shiny rocks using real money at the ATM, but you still cannot purchase anything on the Quest version. The only floor currently in use is the bottom floor, with the slight exception of the third floor containing a very expensive golden cosmetic accessible by a small crack in the second floor window. Outside the mall, there is a large window where players can see the rest of the city, where there are large dark gray buildings with bright yellow windows. It is also always night and always raining outside. There are a few smaller metal huts scattered among the various metal platforms. Some of these huts contain more cosmetics that aren’t seen in the main store. 1 of these small metal huts is used to put on purchased cosmetics, and another small metal hut next to the one already mentioned is for info about buying cosmetics.
- The upper room in stump has been removed in favor of a large concrete entrance to the new map.
- There is a small stand on the 2nd table in stump next to the cave entrance where players can change their cosmetics.

All players are given a small computer on their hand that tells them their target, with the target’s name, color, cosmetics, and distance. When a player tags their target, they are given their target’s target and the player they tagged has their material changed to look like ice. When a player is tagged, they are considered “dead” and are much faster and can slow down alive players. The game ends when there are 2 players left alive, as if the game continued from there both players would have each other as a target, which would be unfair.

The map has a few icy paths through it to practice sliding on, and pine trees on some non-slippery parts of the map, most of which are covered with snow, rather than ice. There is a small spiral staircase tower near the entrance to the map which leads up to 2 different slides. One of them is a large ice slide that will launch players across the map, and the other one is a purple waterslide-like slide that diverges about halfway through. Both paths take players to the bottom of the map, but the upper path takes them outside the map, where they can look at the full mountain range backdrop. The entrance to the new map is in the city rather than the dead tree due to the tree being full, this means mountains has its own computer igloo room where players can change settings, gamemode and cosmetics.

When snapped, the hand holding the guitar can hold down the back trigger (index finger) and slide on the neck to change the pitch using the frets on the guitar. The other hand can pluck the strings to make the actual sound. When a guitar is shaken after making a sound, it’s sound will have a vibrato effect, this may be unintentional.

When a player loses a balloon, they gain a few seconds of invincibility, allowing them to run away or shoot back. When a player dies, they get a large speed boost and can shoot paintballs at players on the other team to slow them down. Dead players have a paint splatter material that is the color of their team. The game ends when all players on one of the teams are dead.

Update #40 - Game Launch and Clouds Map (12/15/2022)[]
- New sixth map, the clouds map. This map is accessed through a wind tunnel at the end of the city hallway. The map is primarily made of a solid cloud material that speeds the player up when jumped from. The map introduces 2 new mechanics - Wind and moving platforms. As the map has no physical boundary, there is wind around the edges of the map to prevent players from falling into the abyss. The wind is also used as a transportation method, not only for entering the map but also used in wind tunnels in the map itself to launch players across it. The moving platforms are in the form of a crane that moves a large, wooden platform around and various platforms that rotate left and right that players can jump between. At the center of the map, there is a large tree that the map is entered from. This tree is considerably bigger than the dead tree, and is also alive. Like the dead tree, the sky tree has a large room with a computer, a cosmetics station, and a gamemode changer, as this map is accessed through the city, like mountain. The map also has a village area where there are small houses with common house objects such as chairs, TVs, washing machines, carpets, and pillows. These houses are spread across multiple large wooden platforms that players can travel between using wooden ramps placed between them. There is a large vine area with thick vines hanging from the branches of the tree. This vine area is very good for pinch climbing and wall jumping. To enter the map, the player must press a button with a carved hand shape on it to open the previously added door. Upon opening the door the player can walk through a small hallway with gray brick walls and a green carpet. The basement itself has a few bookshelves, some boxes, a couch, a TV that plays a new song titled “Curse of the Monkeye”, some posters, and some lights. The small maze that was in front of the door to this map has been moved onto a table in the center of the map and expanded. Inside the maze are 2 creatures called “monkeyes”, one blue and the other pink. The monkeyes look like regular gorilla heads, but the face has one big yellow eye rather than 2 smaller white eyes. The monkeyes also have 6 tentacle-like appendages with smaller yellow eyes that shoot lasers at the end of them. If a player comes across a monkeye, the monkeye will start chasing the player. Upon getting too close to a monkeye, the monkeye will shoot lasers out of its six smaller eyes which creates a hole in the ground that will send the player down into a large, open area under the maze with a chest and doors to exit the maze. In the hit Charstep Films Series "I.C.K. Monkes", It is Kay's house. The chest has a new cosmetic in it. Upon exiting, the player will be changed back to full size. If the player gets caught by a monkeye in the right spot, they will fall into a small dungeon with a tunnel that leads outside the maze that does not change the player back to full size. This allows full exploration of the basement map without having to become full size again. When small players go back to city, though, they will to grow back to full size. If a player goes through and complete the maze as normal, they will be rewarded with a free monkeye badge.

A large chunk of the walls in the center of the canyon have been removed, and in their place are some mining-related wooden structures and a few ziplines. Most ropes are hanging from the larger ropes that stretch across the top of the canyon, and there are a few ziplines along the top of the map that act as a way to fastly travel around the whole map. The old music snippets that played on the four speakers are also gone, in favor of a full song titled “Canyon Cookoff” to play on only one speaker, seemingly making the other three redundant.

Players can dive into the water by jumping in and using both of their hands to control the direction of their momentum in the water. Players can swim in the water by pushing back with their hands, the faster and longer they push for the faster they’ll swim. At the end of the cave, there is a long rope players can climb up to see the full new map. The map has ziplines around the top of its walls for easy travel around the map. There is a large sandcastle with a diving board to the left of the map, a dock area to the right, and in the center, a large sunken ship with ropes and ziplines hanging from it. There are also some chairs, umbrellas and palm trees around the sand castle and the dock. At the front of the map (near the entrance) there is an area of water above sea level with 3 waterfalls falling down to sea level. 2 of the waterfalls players can ride down, one of which goes through a cave. The computer, cosmetic stand, and gamemode selector are in one of two wooden huts in the dock area. There are no slippery walls in this map, instead players are kept inside by wind, similar to the clouds map. One of the four sides of this map is completely open, which is where the ocean continues outside the map, and border of the map in the ocean is outlined by some buoys. Upon entering the map, players can slide down a waterfall that leads into a wide hole with a large crystal in the center, suspended by some wooden structures. In the walls of the higher part of the hole, there are some small mineshafts that don't go anywhere, as opposed to the original mine area which was a decently sized maze under the large cavern area. At the bottom of the hole, there are a few tunnels that lead into a large, maze-like cavern with speleothems, a river that goes into a small underground swimming tunnel, and crystals arranged in rainbow patterns, where each color corresponds to a note in the C major scale when tapped (Red is C, orange is D, yellow is E, green is F, cyan is G, blue is A, and purple is B).
