Modding is the term used when referring to using modifications for the game. Modding is known to get players banned temporarily or permanently from the game, so please do so at your own risk.

Remember: Reports for cheating or any mod detected by the Anti-Cheat come with a high risk of being banned. There is no such thing as 'Legal/Illegal' mods - all mods come with a risk of a ban![]

Instructions[]

For instructions on how to mod, you can refer to the Gorilla Tag Modding Guide, which contains guides for those using PC and Quest. Additionally, you can get help when it comes to modding the game, in the Gorilla Tag Modding Group discord server.

When modding, if you plan on using mods which revolve around gameplay, you have to be in a modded gamemode such as "Modded" or "Modded Casual" to separate those who mod from those who don't. Entering a room under a modding gamemode doesn't allow for the player to cheat in any way, reporting and anti-cheat in these rooms are identical to any other.

Identification of a Mod[]

The safest place to get your mods is by downloading them off of either the Gorilla Tag Modding Group server, or on Monke Mod Manager. This does not mean mods posted outside of these two sources aren't safe, it just means other sources could be unreliable when it comes to information, or the safety of your Gorilla Tag account, as mods found from these sources could be a cheat or a RAT.

Identification of a Cheat[]

The easiest method of identifying a Cheat, is by the mod itself. Most cheats come in the form of mods named "Mod Menus" which can give the player a competitive advantage in Public and/or Private rooms which includes the majority of "Mod Menus" they usually look like a panel with multiple buttons or sections. Please be safe online, as the some cheats you install and run could be a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) which could give those will malicious intent remote-access to your computer or headset (EX: shiba menu).

The first cheat was originally a mod labeled "Monke Mod Menu", this mod used to only work in privates, long before the modded gamemodes.

The History of Quest Mods[]

On March 2nd 2021, Mods were to be used on the Standalone version of Gorilla Tag any Quest device. These mods could be used on Standalone Quest with the installation being done on a computer. Over the span of a few months, an increasing amount of new Quest mods were made, during this time multiple cheats were being made which included a "kick hack" according to Lemming[1].

This "kick hack" cheat is presumed to be one of the core factors as to why Quest mods were discontinued on September 27th 2021, they have not returned since then, and wont return.

In an announcement posted by Lauriethefish (a former Head Modder) they detail how much of the libraries needed for Quest mods to run were privated due to a few reasons, some of which included mods being continuously reposted, and several different cheats being used in-game.[2]

Quest Mods for Gorilla Tag have returned in late January 2025 through a modified Android application package (APK) by SkireScripts. Setting them up takes time, yet they offer features like long arms, adjustable gravity, cosmetic stealers, and more. They have stopped working as of the GT4 update because of upgraded anti-cheat.

It's important to note that utilizing Quest Mods in Gorilla Tag through a modified APK may be considered piracy. This is because the modifications often involve altering or bypassing the game's mechanics, which could potentially violate the terms of service or copyright laws. Players should exercise caution and understand the risks associated with using modified APKs.

As of February 2025, Gorilla Tag APK mods have been patched.
